Cthulhu Obelisk A Totem of Power in H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos 25mm Scale Terrain
Caught in an unexpected fog bank, the tramp steamer Ulysses grounded itself on the sandy beach of an uncharted island. The crew set about repairing minor hull damage while awaiting a favorable tide that will hopefully float the ship off the beach. In the meantime, a small team of sailors were sent ashore into the island's interior in search of fresh water and foraged food. They found swarms of flying insects, some unusual fruits, and something else ...
The party discovered a patch of broken carved stones strewn about a small clear valley. Rising from the fog-laden ground appeared a tall obelisk.
Standing more than twice a man's height, the monolith is covered by writing in an unknown language. The unusual stone contains faint golden crystals.
But most odd is the carved visage that sits atop the obelisk. The creature depicted bears some semblance to the octopi the seamen are familiar with. But the men are overcome with an unexplained feeling of dread as they gaze upon the monument.
With a growing sense of unease, the sailors hurry to leave the valley and return to the Ulysses. All thoughts of foraging are forgotten. As they leave the field of stones, one or two swear they can hear a faint chanting on the breeze. They pick up their speed as they head for the distant beach all the while glancing over their shoulders!
This scenery piece stands about 3 inches (75 mm) tall. The base is 2 inches (25 mm) wide. It would useful in any Call of Cthulhu® game as well as many other horror and pulp role-playing games. This piece would work with miniatures in a variety of scales from 15mm to 28mm.
